We recently engaged in a community give-back project, by beautifying the common area for a subsidized housing community in Summerville, SC. Receiving donations for plants and flowers from Heritage Landcare, we planted Gardenia, Azalea, Lantana, and Japanese Holly. These will bloom beautifully in different colors and times of the year, creating a warm atmosphere to just hang out, while the butterflies do their thing.
We nearly killed ourselves in the July heat, but it was so worth it to see the smiles on the faces of the resident children, who will cherish this garden for many years to come! After we finished planting, we headed inside for pizza and a paint party! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the inventor of air conditioning, and more specifically, central air. Our lunch was also donated, and we were so thankful for it, and to relax with our art projects. The children were so happy to paint rocks with their art work, seal it to protect from the rain, and to have these rocks placed in their new garden.
We received volunteer help from Warriors Haven, Hope Church SC, Modern Woodmen of America, and Heritage Landcare. We were SO grateful for their help, and we all kicked our own backsides, but the end result was worth it. We are so blessed to collaborate with such amazing people. This is why we exist. To come together, and to make life better with each other. Because Together, we thrive.
