Launching a nonprofit organization is not something I thought I would just up and do, and the speed with which this project has taken off has shocked even me. Last September, I was overcome by the feeling of being pushed to launch and could think of nearly nothing else. I began the inquiry into how we would build a website, how we would connect parents, what it would cost, and how long it would take.
I am not wealthy, and I can tell you, it did seem awkward at first, thinking about adding a new expense into our lives to need to manage. Talking to my husband about this, we knew this had to be done. We are blessed enough to be comfortable in our home, our bills are paid, and while we may not afford a Disney vacation anytime soon, we knew that this was bigger than us. And it needed to happen.
From my initial presentation pitch at 1 Million Cups in Charleston, SC, to finding ourselves incorporated and more than just an idea – we were an entity – to receiving our approval for our 501(c)(3) in record time, we went from an idea in my head to a revenue-generating organization in just a couple of months. It really feels like this happened overnight.
We have been blessed by help along the way. We have been introduced to the right people at the right time to help us grow and to acquire talent to our team that will ensure success. We were given branding from Waddy Fletch of Charleston, SC; we have been mentored by SCORE; we have been given training for grant writing and fundraising, and countless hours have already been invested in us by our web developer, Complete Web, of Charleston, SC., to see this amazing project lift off the ground.
This is the biggest thing I have ever done, and I have been humbled multiple times in profound ways to be leading the effort. Our platform build gets to begin now, and our goals for funding and timing are set to see a launch of our website for the summer of 2024. We couldn’t be more pleased to bring a dedicated place for parents and to set up so that parents and their children can thrive. The rollercoaster has only just begun the ride, so hold on tight for all the twists and turns coming! This will be the largest platform for parents and a dedicated space for them ever. Because we love you.
